At Fernwood Day Nursery we aim to provide nutritious well balanced meals and snacks to promote healthy attitudes. All of the meals and snacks served are freshly prepared on the premises. We have devised 4 weekly menus to reflect varying tastes, cultural variations and diversity. We aim to provide children with their ‘5 a day’ when attending for a full day at nursery and aim to use fresh local produce that is high in fibre, nutrients and vitamins. All special dietary requirements are catered for whenever possible.
All meal and snack times are treated as positive experiences for children, children are encouraged to enjoy meals and snacks and they are treated as social occasions. At meal times children sit in friendship groups with their key person. We promote good table manners and children are encouraged to use their utensils.
We have a reduced sugar policy and aim to reduce sugar in our recipes. Fresh drinking water is always available throughout the day for healthy teeth and gums. We are committed to promoting positive attitudes to oral health and children are encouraged to bring their own toothbrushes and toothpaste to nursery; we then encourage them to clean their own teeth after meal times. We have also signed up to the ‘Stop the Rot’ Campaign.
